Our national volunteer program draws on the voices, passion and energy of those who have recovered from perinatal anxiety, depression and postnatal psychosis. Together we raise awareness, reduce stigma and share a message of hope and recovery.
We know perinatal mental illness does not discriminate and that it can affect anyone. Help us reach out to those in your community and others across Australia.

PANDA Community Champions
Raising awareness to promote understanding and eliminate stigma
Who can be a PANDA Community Champion?
Anyone that has recovered from a personal experience of perinatal mental illness can apply to be a Community Champion. By personal experience we mean that you have experienced perinatal anxiety and/or depression or postnatal psychosis or supported a partner through their experience.
You also need to be passionate about raising awareness of perinatal mental illness and PANDA's work, in line with our vision and mission, with no intention to promote or sell any personal agenda, business or product.
-
Share your story
Sharing stories about the personal impact of perinatal anxiety, depression and postnatal psychosis plays a crucial role in raising awareness, reducing stigma and encouraging people to seek support. By sharing your own personal story, you can help share your key messages about recovery and the importance of reaching out for help.
-
Raise awareness in your community
There are any number of ways that Community Champions help PANDA raise community awareness. One of the key ways is through telling your story to the media (including TV, radio, online and print) or on PANDA's website.
-
Awareness and fundraising events
Fundraising for PANDA supports us in our mission to reach out to expecting and new parents, health professionals and the broader community. Community Champions can host a get-together with friends/family/parent groups/work colleagues for an honest conversation about parenthood over food – wherever and whatever that may be!
-
Research and development
PANDA has excellent relationships with key perinatal and generalist mental health services and researchers and we are committed to sharing our knowledge about the lived experience. By participating in research projects, Community Champions can add their voice to the growing data about the impact of perinatal anxiety, depression and postnatal psychosis on individuals, families and the community.
How does the program work?
Become a part of an online community to be inspired by others and get ideas on activities you want to get involved in. As a virtual volunteer program, the Community Champions role is designed to be flexible, so that you can get involved as and when time permits. The will to help, along with internet access, is all you need!
